Being a Tourist at Home!

12:00 AM

Major home repairs forced Matt and myself to take a short stay-cation in our hometown of Cincinnati. Who says you can't be a tourist at home? We put that challenge to the test! We ventured to the Symphony Bed & Breakfast located in the heart of OTR and across from the historic Cincinnati Music Hall. (Building Shown Above).

You've all seen the above image before but incase you missed it, I can take you all the way back to February and to my SECOND ever post! Here you can see a small portion of Music Hall in the background.

At The Symphony Hotel you have the option to pick your themed room based off the composer of your choice. We chose the master himself, Mozart. Upon arrival and checking in I was escorted to my room through the high ceilinged winding staircase of the 1870's home. Narrow hall ways lined with ornate carpet and tiling welcome you to the turn of the 20th century. I stood in the doorway and gazed into the Mozart Suite where no detail was missed in the themed decorations. For pure ambiance Mozart's Andante in C Major for Flute and Orchestra greeted me softly from the vintage record player in the corner.

Wall to wall custom carpet and original 19 and 20th century furniture fill the room with warmth and that "Home away from home" feeling. A wealth of knowledge lay in every inch of this room from books, to music sheets, to portraits and records of Mozart's greatest works. Even the chocolates on our pillows were music notes! The delightful delicacies were located within the details, all we had to do was listen.

For those with any doubts about stepping away from the high-rises in downtown Cincinnati, this is the true Cincinnati experience. Over-The-Rhine is one of the United State's OLDEST historic districts and while this home may be from the 1870's, it is well equipped with old world charm and modern amenities.

In order to serenade our Cincinnati stay-cation we decided to take a trip to the coast. Or as close to the coast as we can get in Cincinnati and joined the fun at Lobstapalooza at Washington Platform Saloon Restaurant. This Cincinnati gem is located just a few blocks from the Symphony hotel and offers an extensive menu complete with their summer specials. I chose a blue crab stuffed steamed lobster with drawn butter and scalloped potatoes. Matt chose Lobster Ravioli complete with a vegetable medley and toasted bread.

Yes, the food was as fantastic as it looks! Not in to seafood though? No problem, Washington Platform Saloon offers a variety of gourmet dishes that are sure to satisfy your every taste bud! All in all, our mini stay-cation was a home-town tourist dream! We could not have hoped for a more educational and adventurous experience. I highly recommend both the Symphony Hotel Bed and Breakfast as well as the Washington Platform Saloon in you're ever in the Cincinnati area. Even if you're not in town, doesn't this post make you want to come and visit us?
